Athletes 'perform better in condoms'

A leading condom company has created the world’s first sports wear made entirely from condom material.

Ansell, manufacturer of Skyn Condoms, has collaborated with designer and wearable technology specialist Pauline Van Dongen to create a high-performance suit made from polyisoprene – an alternative to latex.

Designed for elite-level long jumpers, the suit’s material utilises biomimicry and its features include the ability to work with an athlete’s skin in order to adjust the wearer’s temperature.

Streamlined and close fitting, the suit lets athletes feel everything to allow for “ultimate precision and performance”.

“The Skyn brand has innovation woven into its DNA,” says Jeyan Heper, president of the global business unit at Ansell.

“In the world of competitive sports, athletes look for every advantage, and we knew our Skynfeel condom material was revolutionary in our own industry, therefore we turned to the world of performance athletics and decided to conduct an experiment in apparel.

“Experiments like this can point the way to the future,” added the product’s designed, Pauline Van Dongen. “For me, it is about challenging the status quo, trying something totally new, daring to innovate, imagine and inspire.”
